Surrounded by the green hills of Vorno, just beyond Lucca’s medieval towers, Il Frantoio is a rare expression of Tuscan heritage, an ancient olive press reborn as a private home of understated elegance. Once the summer estate of the noble Controni family, the 16th-century frantoio served for centuries as the village’s lifeblood, pressing olives gathered from the surrounding terraces into liquid gold. Even today, the spirit of that past lingers in the cool stone cellars, where vast terracotta urns, once filled with the season’s first oil, have been lovingly preserved. Thoughtfully restored, Il Frantoio now welcomes up to eight guests across four individually styled double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, heating, and personal safe. The formal living room is designed for leisurely evenings, while the fully equipped Tuscan kitchen and dining room, with seating for eight, invite long, convivial meals.
